Pirrewitje’s Winter Preparations
The autumn leaves drifted gently to the ground, and the forest was already feeling colder. Pirrewitje knew that winter was not far away, so he decided it was time to prepare. He also wanted to help his friends get ready, so everyone could be warm and safe throughout the winter.
Pirrewitje filled a basket with nuts, berries, and soft patches of moss that he had gathered along the way. While he was walking, he came across Bram the hedgehog, who was busy filling his winter den with tasty treats. “Bram, do you have enough food for the winter?” Pirrewitje asked with concern.
Bram smiled and showed him his full pantry. “I’m almost ready, but I could use some soft moss to keep my nest warm,” he replied.
Pirrewitje immediately took out some of the soft moss from his basket and placed it in Bram’s den. “Here, this will keep you cozy on the cold days,” he said with a smile. Bram thanked him with a cheerful grunt and made the moss comfy in his nest.
A bit further along, Pirrewitje met Sora the squirrel, who was dashing back and forth with acorns in her paws. “Sora, you’re gathering quite a stash!” Pirrewitje called out, laughing.
Sora stopped for a moment to catch her breath. “Yes, I need enough acorns for the whole winter!” she said, panting. “But I don’t have a good place to store them all!”
Pirrewitje looked around and spotted a large, hollow tree trunk nearby. “Why not use this hollow tree as a pantry?” he suggested. Together, they worked hard to stack all the acorns and nuts safely inside the tree trunk. “Now you can find your food easily when you’re hungry,” Pirrewitje said, pleased.
As they were finishing, they heard a soft squeak from a nearby bush. It was a little mouse, Mollie, who looked a bit lost. “What’s wrong, Mollie?” Pirrewitje asked kindly.
“Oh, I don’t have a warm place for the winter,” Mollie squeaked sadly. She only had a small pile of leaves to protect her from the cold.
Pirrewitje, Bram, and Sora looked at each other. “We’re going to help you, Mollie!” Sora said with determination. They gathered twigs, leaves, and moss to make a cozy nest for Mollie, tucked safely into a warm hollow under a tree. They made the nest snug and secure so the wind couldn’t get through.
When the nest was ready, Mollie crawled inside with a grateful squeak. “Thank you, everyone! Now I can stay warm and safe through the winter,” she said with a big smile.
Pirrewitje and his friends felt proud and happy. They had not only prepared themselves but had also helped their friends get ready for the winter. As the first snowflakes gently fell, they looked together at the white world forming around them.
“Now we can face the winter with peace of mind,” Pirrewitje said, satisfied.
And so everyone returned to their warm little homes, ready for the quiet and stillness of winter, knowing they could always count on each other.
The illustration shows Pirrewitje the gnome, Bram the hedgehog, Sora the squirrel, and Mollie the mouse as they prepare for winter. Pirrewitje, Bram, and Sora are helping Mollie build a cozy nest in a hollow tree. The nest is made of soft moss, twigs, and leaves, and Mollie is smiling happily as she settles in. The peaceful autumn forest is surrounded by the first snowflakes falling, creating a warm and caring atmosphere as they work together to prepare for winter.
