The Wind and the Falling Leaves
Once upon a time, there was a little gnome named Pirrewitje who lived in a hollow tree in the middle of a big forest. It was autumn, and the trees were full of beautiful leaves in red, yellow, and orange. But the most magical thing was how the wind blew through the forest, making the leaves dance.
One day, Pirrewitje woke up early to greet the wind. “Good morning, Wind!” he called cheerfully. The wind whispered back, “Good morning, Pirrewitje! Today, I’m going to make the leaves fall and dance. Would you like to help me?”
Pirrewitje thought it was a wonderful idea. He put on his warm woolen hat and stepped outside. Together with the wind, he blew gently on the leaves, and one by one, they started to fall from the branches. They twirled and tumbled through the air, as if they were doing a joyful little dance. Pirrewitje jumped and twirled along with them, and soon, leaves were covering the ground everywhere.
As he paused for a moment, he noticed a little hedgehog coming over. “Hello, Pirrewitje,” squeaked the hedgehog. “Thank you for the soft leaves. Now I can make a cozy nest for the winter!”
Pirrewitje smiled. “You’re welcome, little friend! The wind and I love to make the leaves dance. And if it helps others, it’s even better!”
The wind began to blow softly again and whispered in Pirrewitje’s ear, “Let’s make more leaves dance for all our forest friends.” And so they continued, Pirrewitje and the wind, until the whole forest was covered in a colorful carpet of leaves.
At the end of the day, Pirrewitje stood still and looked around. The forest looked beautiful with all those colorful leaves on the ground. “Thank you, Wind,” he said softly. “We had a wonderful autumn day.”
And the wind blew one last time gently through Pirrewitje’s hair, as a wink and a farewell.
