Pirrewitje Draws a Picture for Saint Nicholas

It was a busy day in Pirrewitje’s cozy little home. Outside, the air was crisp, and tiny snowflakes drifted down onto the moss-covered roof. Inside, Pirrewitje sat at his wooden table with a stack of colored pencils, a large sheet of paper, and a steaming cup of berry tea.

“What would Saint Nicholas like to receive?” he murmured, looking at the blank sheet. Suddenly, an idea struck him. “I’ll draw a picture of the forest and all the animals! He’ll surely love that.”

Pirrewitje began by sketching tall, towering trees. Then came the animals: Squirrel Noortje perched on a branch holding an acorn, Fox Vlinster playfully leaping through the grass, and Owl Wiebel sitting proudly on a branch under the moonlight.

He colored the starlit sky in bright yellow and gave the moon a soft, glowing halo. “Perfect,” Pirrewitje said, adding the final touch: a small drawing of himself with a big smile.

When the picture was finished, he carefully rolled it up and tied it with a red ribbon. “Now I’ll take it to the big shoe by the campfire!” he said excitedly.

Outside, the other animals gathered around. “What do you have there, Pirrewitje?” asked Noortje.

“I made a drawing for Saint Nicholas,” he replied proudly. “I hope he likes it.”

The animals decided to accompany him to the campfire, where everyone had already placed their shoes. Pirrewitje gently placed his drawing in his tiny shoe. Then, they all sat around the fire and sang a song for Saint Nicholas.

That night, under the bright stars, Saint Nicholas quietly visited the forest. He found Pirrewitje’s drawing and smiled warmly. “What a beautiful surprise,” he said softly.

The next morning, Pirrewitje found a small gift in his shoe: a new set of colored pencils and a sheet of shiny paper. “Saint Nicholas must have loved my drawing!” he said happily.
