The frozen pond

On a frosty winter morning, when the entire forest was in deep winter slumber, Pirrewitje noticed something as he walked by the pond. The pond was completely frozen over, and he knew the fish beneath the ice would struggle to breathe.

Pirrewitje to the rescue!” he exclaimed. He hurried back to his hollowed treehouse and retrieved his small but sturdy shovel. On his way, he encountered his friends: the squirrels, rabbits, and even a few curious deer. He told them about the pond and asked for their help.

Together with the animals, Smurfette returned to the pond. The squirrels and deer watched as Pirrewitje and the rabbits began to carefully chip away at the ice. They worked diligently, shovel by shovel, until they finally made a small hole in the ice.

It was a small hole, but big enough for the fish to come up and breathe. Pirrewitje and his friends watched as the fish gratefully swam to the hole and surfaced to take a breath.

Afterward, they made a few more small holes so that the ducks and other birds had a place to drink and bathe. The ducks chattered happily and dipped their heads into the water, delighted with the fresh, cold water.

When their work was done, Pirrewitje and his friends stood together at the edge of the pond. They looked contentedly at the water, knowing they had helped the animals in the pond. “Together, we can achieve a lot,” Pirrewitje said proudly. “We’ve ensured that our friends in the pond are safe and happy, even during the cold winter.
