The Nile Geese by the Pond
The Nile Geese by the Pond Tell Tales of a Faraway Land Called Egypt
On a beautiful autumn morning, Pirrewit Wit Wit the gnome sat by the pond, listening to the frogs croak and the soft rustling of leaves. But today, there was a special sound: the chatter of two Nile geese, deep in conversation. Pirrewit perked up his ears, for he heard something exciting.
“Egypt,” one goose chattered. “What a place! Sand as far as the eye can see, and the sun always shining!”
Pirrewit was curious and crept closer to hear their story better. He gently knocked on the bark of a tree by the pond. “Good morning, Nile geese! I heard you talking about a place called Egypt. What kind of place is that?”
The Nile geese looked at each other and nodded. “Egypt is a faraway and mysterious land,” said the first goose. “It’s far beyond the fields and forests you know. It’s a land of sun and sand, with a great river called the Nile. Animals like crocodiles and hippos live there.”
“And us,” added the second goose proudly. “We are Nile geese because our ancestors come from that distant land. The Nile is their home.”
Pirrewit was impressed. “How special! Do you know any other secrets of Egypt?”
The first goose nodded again. “Oh yes, Egypt has huge, ancient buildings called pyramids. They were built by people who lived there long ago. They’re so big that even a group of gnomes like you couldn’t hug them all at once!”
Pirrewit smiled at the thought of the giant pyramids and imagined him and his friends running around them. “What a fascinating place! But how did you come to be here by the pond if you originally come from Egypt?”
“Oh,” said the second goose, “sometimes we fly long distances to discover new places. But Egypt is always in our hearts. That’s why we tell each other stories, so we never forget.”
Pirrewit nodded in understanding. He loved stories too, and he knew how nice it was to keep memories alive. He thanked the Nile geese for their wonderful tales and decided that one day, he might try to go on an adventure himself, just like the Nile geese.
“Thank you, dear Nile geese,” he said, making a little bow. “I’ve learned a lot today. And if I ever have stories about faraway lands, I will surely come and share them with you.”
The Nile geese squawked happily and flew away, high above the trees, as Pirrewit watched them. He felt as though he had discovered a little bit of Egypt right here by the pond.
